Our Story
Founded in 2014 by a group of local archery enthusiasts who wanted to create a welcoming space for all skill levels, BSAC has grown from a small backyard practice group to one of the most beloved community clubs in the region. What started with shared gear and a passion for hitting targets has evolved into a hub where lifelong friendships are formed, skills are honed, and the Byron Shire’s spirit of connection lives on.
We’re rooted in the area’s unique blend of coastal energy and hinterland calm—many of our shoots take place with the backdrop of incredible sunsets, reminding us why we fell in love with archery in the first place: the quiet focus of aiming, the thrill of a bullseye, and the joy of being part of something bigger than ourselves.
Who We Are
BSAC is for everyone. Our members range from 8-year-old first-timers learning to hold a bow to retired professionals sharing their wisdom. We’re parents, teachers, surfers, and creatives—all bound by a common goal: to make archery accessible, safe, and fun.
What makes us unique?
- Inclusivity first: No experience? No problem. We believe archery should be for all ages, bodies, and backgrounds.
- Local heart: We’re not just a club—we’re part of the Byron Shire fabric.
- Small-club charm: With less than 30 active members, you’ll never feel like a number. Our coaches know your name, and our weekly social shoots are as much about laughter as they are about accuracy.
Our Affiliations
BSAC is proud to be affiliated with two of Australia’s leading archery bodies, ensuring we uphold the highest standards of safety, training, and competition:
- Archery Australia (AA): As an official AA club, we follow national safety guidelines and offer pathways to state and national competitions.
- South Queensland Archery Society (SQAS): Our membership with SQAS connects us to a broader network of archers across Queensland and NSW, opening doors to regional tournaments and collaborative events.
But we’re independent at our core. We tailor our programs to the Byron Shire community—no rigid structures, just a focus on what you want from archery.
Our Mission & Values
We exist to:
- Grow archers: From complete beginners to elite competitors, we provide the support and skills to help you reach your goals.
- Build community: Foster a space where everyone feels welcome, respected, and inspired to thrive.
- Celebrate the outdoors: Honor Byron Shire’s natural beauty by promoting responsible, mindful archery that connects us to the land.
Our core values:
- Safety first: All our coaches are certified, and we prioritise proper technique to ensure every shoot is risk-free.
- Inclusivity: No judgments—just encouragement, no matter your skill level or background.
- Joy: Archery should be fun! We balance structure with spontaneity, whether you’re here for a casual shoot or training for a championship.
